The funds that the Cystic Fibrosis Trust raise through it's running programme play an important part in combating a disease that is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseaseand affects over 8,000 people in the UK. Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food. Average life expectancy is around 31 years, although improvements in treatment mean a baby born today could expect to live for longer.
However these are exciting times at CF Trust as they began research into gene therapy in 2008. The Trust believes that this investment in research of £6.5m will take the life-threatening aspect out of the disease. So the sponsorship money raised by Team CF runners every year makes a big contribution to the fight to see off CF. Also, the money the Team CF runners raise will pay for much needed specailist CF dietician at the RVI in Newcastle over the next three years.
As a runner you can help the CF cause by joining Team CF by running the sixth Yorkshire 10k set in the beautiful surroundings of Newby Hall Estate. This trail is mailnly an off road route and may not be the fastest or flattest but the feedback from runners is that it is inspiring and the atmosphere is superb. As well as the 10k route, there is the 2k fun run open to all ages and abilities so why not get family and friends together to take part.
