During March 2007 ITV's adaption of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park was filmed entirely on location at Newby.

With a cast of 50, filming took place throughout August and stars Billie Piper in the lead role as Fanny Price. Mansfield Park is part of a new ITV season of Austen novels including Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.

Crusoe October 2008

Hollywood actor Sam Neill arrived at Newby Hall on Thursday as the house was once again used for the filming of a major television series. The star was there for the filming of an American production of the Daniel Defoe classic Robinson Crusoe, which will also star the Yorkshire actor Sean Bean.

Robinson Crusoe, which is believed to have a budget of £13m, is also being shot on location in South Africa and the Seychelles. Newby Hall administrator, Stuart Gill said: "It's a privilege to be able to host this and it's wonderful that Newby Hall will appear on screens internationally."

Following the novel and its treasured tale of adventure, this high-action, fast-paced thirteen-part series will explore the perils and challenges facing the world's most famous castaway as Crusoe (Philip Winchester, "Flyboys", "Thunderbirds"). Crusoe and his friend Friday (Tongayi Chirisa) struggle to survive on a desert island with little more than their wits. Overcoming maraudig militias, hungry cannibals, wild cats, starvation and apocalyptic lighting storms. Crusoe dreams of the day he will be reunited with his beloved family.

Allowed to develop away from the bonds of 17th Century life, the ingenious Crusoe builds a breathtaking and altogether modern home high up in the trees to elude his enemies. Friday and Crusoe's deep friendship is pushed to the limit as opportunities to escape their island paradise, and the people they meet there, consistently challenge them to choose between loyalty and freedom.

As the story develops, the love story between Crusoe and his wife Susannah, left behind in England will unfold from meeting to marriage, as will his relationship with his mentor and patron, the mysterious Jeremiah Blackthorn (Sam Neil).
